Why use Chinese Herbal Medicine?
Why are herbs important?
Herbs help our health in three
ways:
Over 2000 Years of
Experience
Preventatives: When we sense a cold or flu
coming on, we can
take herbs in advance
of full onset. Herbs give our bodies more power to ward off any
contagion, even serious ones such as parotitis (mumps), meningitis,
encephalitis and hepatitis. Heat stroke can also be prevented if
treated early enough with herbs.
Curatives: When someone is already
suffering from an ailment, and the body is in disharmony, taking
herbs can help relieve the misery. Some examples are high blood
pressure, constipation, acne, toothache, indigestion, nervous
disorders, frost bite, dysmenorrhea, phlegm and
hang-overs.
Tonic: Herbs give us more energy for our
body and mind functions so we don't tire as easily. Specific organs
of the body like the liver, heart and kidneys can be nourished and
energized with herbs.

TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE PERSPECTIVE
in the Traditional Chinese Medicine philosophy, when the body
contains two opposite forces and a delicate balance, the body is
healthy. Energy, called "qi" flows like rivers along pathways, or
meridians,
throughout the body. This constant flow of energy keeps the yin and
yang balanced. However, the flow of energy can sometimes be blocked,
like water getting stuck behind a dam. A disruption in the flow of
energy can lead to illness.
Approximately 2,000 different acupuncture
points lie along the body's meridians. The idea behind
acupuncture is that stimulating these points with acupuncture
needles or pressure relieves obstructions in the flow of energy,
enabling the body to heal.
